What we keep, and what we don't.

A lot of the people who use this site are children, and their parents are entitled to know exactly what we hold. This is written to be read rather than to protect us, so it is short and specific.
The short version
- We collect only what we need to do the thing you asked us to do.
- We do not sell, share, rent or trade anyone's information. There is nobody we would share it with.
- There is no advertising on this site, no tracking pixels, no analytics service, and no third-party cookies.
- Ask us to delete your information and we will, without asking why.
If you fill in a form
Requesting an instrument, offering one, inviting us to a residence, or volunteering all store what you typed: your name, email, and whichever of phone, town, school and instrument the form asked for. It is kept so a student volunteer can write back to you and so we know what to look for.
Two emails are sent when you submit: one to us, and a short acknowledgement to you.
If you are a student volunteer with an account
We hold your name, email, and optionally your school, grade, town, phone and instrument. We record the service hours you log and which performances you signed up for.
We do not ask for or store home addresses, dates of birth, or photographs of students in the account system.
If you are under eighteen we also record your parent or guardian's name and contact details, whether they have given consent for you to take part, and separately whether they have given consent for you to appear in a photograph. Those are two different permissions and we treat them separately, because parents regularly grant one and refuse the other.
Photographs
We do not publish photographs in which a student can be identified. The single exception is the director, who is named and pictured on the About page as the public representative of the project, with his parent's agreement. Everybody else appears as hands, backs, or figures too far away or too out of focus to recognize.
Where we ever did publish an identifiable child, it would only be with a parent or guardian's specific agreement. Photographs taken inside a care residence are handled more carefully still, because a picture of a nursing home common room reveals who lives there, and that is not ours to publish. Ask us to take a photograph down and we will do it the same day.
What we do not do
- No analytics, no advertising, no tracking across other websites.
- The only cookie this site sets is the one that keeps a volunteer signed in. There is no cookie banner because there is nothing to consent to.
- We never post a family's details publicly. Instruments on the public board carry no information about who asked for them.
- We never publish where an instrument came from, which protects the person who gave it as much as it protects the arrangement.
Where it is kept, and for how long
Everything lives in a single database on our web host in the United States. Only coordinators and administrators can see it, each through their own account.
Requests and offers are kept while they are active and for about a year afterwards, so we can come back to someone we could not help the first time. Volunteer accounts and service hour records are kept while the student is involved and for a year after they leave, since schools sometimes ask for hours to be confirmed retrospectively. After that we delete them.
Asking us to delete something
Write to hello@gonoteworthy.com and say what you want removed. A parent may ask on behalf of their child. We will do it and confirm when it is done. You do not have to give a reason.
If something goes wrong
If information is ever exposed or lost, we will tell the people affected directly and plainly, and say what we are doing about it. We would rather be embarrassed than quiet.
